What is Text Watermarking?

Text watermarking is the process of hiding secret data within plain text without visibly altering its appearance. Our tool utilizes advanced zero-width Unicode characters—invisible spaces that your browser renders without taking up any width. By encoding your secret message into a sequence of these characters, we can interleave them seamlessly into your document.

Why Embed Watermarks in Text?

  • Track Document Leaks: Distribute slightly different watermarked versions to individuals. If a leak occurs, extract the watermark to identify the source.
  • Protect Intellectual Property: Claim ownership of articles, code, or essays by embedding your author ID invisibly.
  • Authenticity Verification: Ensure a document hasn't been forged by checking for your cryptographic watermark.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the watermark visible to users?

No. We use zero-width characters which are natively ignored by text rendering engines. The text will look entirely normal to any human reader.

Does it survive copy and paste?

Yes! Zero-width characters are copied along with the visible text when users highlight and copy it. However, if the text is pasted into a plain-text editor that aggressively strips non-printable characters, the watermark may be lost.

Can someone else read my embedded message?

Not if you use a secret key. Without the key, the extracted zero-width characters will decode into meaningless gibberish.
